Wheat...A short-lived spike in the futures complex saw west coast cash
wheat prices drift lower with the retreat in early-week trade. White wheat
did see basis strengthen 15 cents against the decline in Chicago futures
on Tuesday, limiting the slide from the high of $6.40 posted last week.
Crop Progress...USDA reported winter wheat conditions for the Pacific
Northwest held steady over the past week, with the three-state weighted
index holding at 96% of average. Good to excellent ratings for Idaho saw
a decline of 1 point to 64%, Oregon gained 2 points to 55% and Washington
slipped a point to 62%. Spring wheat ratings showed Idaho unchanged from
last week at 60% good to excellent while Washington slipped 3 points to
a 56% good to excellent rating.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a market decline in wheat
shipments last week, coming in at 9.4 million bushels to put year-to-date
loadings 18% behind a year ago at 31 million bushels. Hard red winter was
the top shipper with 5.2 million bushels, followed by hard red spring with
3.3 million. West coast exporters loaded 4.3 million bushels of wheat that
went mostly to Japan, along with 16 million bushels of corn.
